ABC Meubles We Went Looking for a Bunk Bed. We Found a Furniture Maker That Promises to Repair What It Sells.
Posted on |
Furniture shopping usually ends the same way.
A flat pack box. A bag of mystery screws. A bed that creaks by spring.
So when we opened the French site of ABC Meubles, we expected more of the same.
Instead, the first thing we saw was a flag.
A little French flag next to almost every product, and a promise underneath: most of the furniture is made in a workshop in Normandy.
It Did Not Feel Like Flat Pack Furniture
The homepage opens with solid wood beds, bunk beds, trundle beds, storage beds and desks. Everything is sold as a kit you assemble, but the brand says its furniture is designed to be assembled and taken apart several times without losing strength.
That is a big claim for kit furniture.
The company says it was founded in 1900, started by selling small household goods, supplied catalog sellers for years and launched its own website in 2007. It says about 95% of its products are made in its Normandy workshop.
Those are the company’s own words, but the story is easy to follow, and it shows in how the site is organized.
The Part We Noticed Most: Repairs
Most furniture brands want you to buy again.
ABC Meubles says the opposite. Its homepage says spare wood parts are available for life, so a broken slat or a worn ladder can be replaced instead of thrown away. It also says the furniture can be repaired and that “nothing gets thrown away.”
If that holds up, it matters. A child’s bed lasts through several moves and a few growth spurts. Being able to replace one part, not the whole bed, is worth real money.
The Deals and Perks on the Site Right Now
| Perk | Details |
| Free delivery | From 700 euros in France, excluding Corsica, per the banner |
| Payment in four | Four payments with no fees |
| Wood samples | A guide to receive a sample, listed in the footer |
| Good deals section | A page called Bons plans |
| Customer rating | 4.8 out of 5 from 3,262 verified reviews |

One thing to check. The site’s page description mentions free delivery from 400 euros, but the banner at the top says 700 euros. Confirm the threshold at checkout before you plan your basket.
Four Pieces We Looked At Abc-meubles
Prices below are “from” prices on the French homepage. Colors and options change the total.

Price: From 300 euros | Marked: New
- Solid wood, made in France
- Seven finishes, from raw wood to natural varnish, honey, white, gray and black

A desk with this much storage at this price is easy to like. Raw wood is the cheapest finish, and you can seal it later yourself.
Best For: Home offices and students.
2. Malo Trundle Bed, 80 x 190, Solid Pine
Price: From 439 euros | Marked: Eco design rating A
- A trundle bed that pulls out to sleep two
- Solid pine, in six finishes
- A good fit for guest rooms and sleepovers
The eco rating A is the brand’s own score, but it is a nice detail on a children’s bed.
Best For: Small bedrooms and families with a regular guest.
3. Bunk Bed, 2 Places, 90 x 200, Straight Ladder
Price: From 789 euros | Marked: New
- Solid wood, with a straight ladder
- Six finishes
- Sleeps two
A bunk bed is the classic shared room fix. Check the ceiling height and the safety age rules before you buy.
Best For: Shared children’s rooms.
4. Bunk Bed, 3 Places, 90 x 200
Price: From 1,289 euros | Marked: New, eco design rating A
- A three place bunk for siblings or a holiday home
- Solid wood, six finishes
- Made to last through a few moves
The biggest spend on our list, but still modest for a bed that sleeps three.
Best For: Large families and holiday rentals.
Why the Wood Story Matters
The brand says its wood comes from a family sawmill in the Landes region with 75 years of experience, and that the forests are certified PEFC and FSC. The wood is mostly pine. It also says it uses an eco-friendly water based varnish.
Certifications like PEFC and FSC point to responsibly managed forests. If this matters to you, look for the logos on the product page, and ask customer service for the certificate.
The Range in One Glance
The menu shows how wide the catalog is. Space saving beds include mezzanine beds, trundle beds, bunk beds, stackable beds and storage beds. There are bedroom items such as slatted bases, mattresses, bedside tables and chests of drawers. There are desks, stools, shelves, storage cubes and cube staircases.
The site lists mattresses too, including foam, latex and reconditioned options. That makes it possible to furnish a child’s room in one order.
A Simple Way to Choose
Start with the space. Measure the ceiling height and the floor area, since a mezzanine bed needs clear height.
Next, pick the bed type. A trundle bed suits guests, a bunk bed suits shared rooms, and a storage bed suits small spaces.
Then pick the finish. Raw wood costs less and takes paint well. Natural varnish keeps the wood look. Colors suit a child’s room.
Finally, read the assembly notes and delivery terms, and check how many boxes will arrive.
What to Check Before You Pay
Kit furniture lives or dies on the details, so check a few things.
Look at the delivery terms and the number of boxes, since a large bunk bed can arrive in several parcels. Look at the assembly instructions on the product page, and plan an hour or two with a second person. Check the weight limit and the safety rules for upper bunks, which usually carry an age limit.
Also read the return and refund page, since bulky items can have different rules. If you are unsure about color, ask for a wood sample first.
