Plants can be grown with roots raised (giving a bonsai or caudiciform look) or below soil level (giving a pin cushion look)

the petioles or leaf sheathes of the plant which are a beautiful mix of red and white

The horizontal white bands are smeared and spotty

Pachypodium bispinosum Crassulaceae The leaves look like redPachypodium bispinosum A nice shrubby caudiciform species of Pachypodium. Said to be the most floriferous species. Very similar to P. succulentum but differs in the flowers and it seems to make more small branches (which is nicer in my opinion). Not difficult to grow. Experiences light frost in its native South Africa, but any hard frost can kill it. Likes water during the growing season as long as it is in well drained soil. Should be kept fairly dry
